“A love letter to a place that helped me find nature and heal.”
In his project “Sanctuary,” Billy Hickey, a nature photographer from the US, portrays his favorite wildlife refuge in Concord, Massachusetts, his hometown.
“During mental health struggles and broken hearts, I began prescribing myself time outside,” shares Billy.
“Returning to the same wildlife refuge as the seasons changed, as new news of deaths and injustices would emerge thru media, social or otherwise. I would seek refuge, among the trees, tall grass and wetlands. Eventually it became part of my life,” he recalls.
“These photos are born of the wonder and beauty of nature, and my gratitude in finding them. I hope you can find the same near you.”

Santuario
"Una carta de amor a un lugar que me ayudó a encontrar la naturaleza y a sanar".
En su proyecto "Santuario", Billy Hickey, fotógrafo de naturaleza estadounidense, retrata su refugio de vida salvaje favorito en Concord, Massachusetts, su ciudad natal.
"Durante luchas de salud mental y corazones rotos, empecé a recetarme tiempo al aire libre", comparte Billy.
"Volvía al mismo refugio cuando cambiaban las estaciones, cuando aparecían nuevas noticias de muertes e injusticias en los medios de comunicación, sociales o de otro tipo. Buscaba refugio entre los árboles, la hierba alta y los humedales. Con el tiempo se convirtió en parte de mi vida", recuerda.
"Estas fotos nacen de la maravilla y la belleza de la naturaleza, y de mi gratitud al encontrarlas. Espero que puedas encontrar lo mismo cerca de ti".
